Sacred Heart Social Justice Team – Living the Spirit of Mary MacKillop
At Sacred Heart, our Social Justice Team is inspired by the words of Australia’s first saint, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who urged us to:
“Never see a need without doing something about it.”
Guided by this powerful message, the Social Justice Team is made up of student volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others—both within our local community and beyond.
At the beginning of each school year, team members meet to set their goals, with a strong focus on raising awareness and funds for key organisations, including:
-
Caritas Australia (Project Compassion)
-
St Vincent de Paul Society
-
Catholic Missions
-
Local community support initiatives
Throughout the year, students lead a variety of fundraising and awareness events, such as:
-
Shrove Tuesday, where students cook and sell pancakes to raise money for Caritas during Project Compassion
-
School-wide initiatives during October and November to support the work of Catholic Missions
These experiences not only raise valuable funds but also help students grow in compassion, leadership, and a sense of responsibility to others. The Social Justice Team is a vibrant expression of our Catholic values in action—teaching students that even small acts of kindness can lead to meaningful change.
