Dear Families Welcome to Term 2,
Term two has the big idea of Belonging. The students will be studying history from
the Victorian Curriculum, some of the concepts being taught at the different levels
will be Aboriginal History, the impact of European settlement, personal histories,
Australia at war, mapping and navigation, toys in the “olden days” and how our world
has transformed.
The concepts that will be explored from the RE curriculum will be around the action
of the Holy Spirit and all the ways we can pray.
Next week is a short week and the classes will be engaged in a focus on the
ANZACs. Letter writing and leaving loved ones will be discussed along with symbols
of the commemoration. We will be marching in the Morwell Parade and invite all
families to attend. The Parade will start at 11:50am from the corner of Commercial
Rd. and Tarwin St. The main service will start once the Parade arrives at the
Cenotaph. It is short service but a very important one on the veteran’s calendar.
Commemorative items will be on sale at school next week.
This weekend we ask you to say prayers for Isabella, Harrison, Charlee, Peyton,
Lachy, Shelby, Indrani, Maddy and Nevaeh who are all making their First
Communion. Shelby and Lachy will be Baptised on Sunday during the ceremony.
Today the group participated in Reconciliation, (Charlee, Peyton and Nevaeh made
their first Reconciliation) the group were impressive when talking with Father James
about their knowledge of the sacraments and all are very excited about the next
steps they are making in their Faith journey.
This Term Grade 6 children will be engaged in studying the work of the Holy Spirit
through Catholic Saints and the everyday saints they know. So, parents,
grandparents, aunties and uncles expect to be interviewed. They will also have their
Service Evening where they will have a retreat day and prepare a meal for their
families.
Mother’s Day is coming up and details of this celebration will be shared shortly.
I ask all parents to be exceptionally vigilant with online platforms as children at
school age are not meant to be on them alone and most do not have the maturity to
be able to self-regulate without support from an adult. Please keep an eye on your
child/ren’s interactions on digital platforms.
Blessing for the weekend,
Anne-Marie Robb
It has been a great start to term 2,
We had School Photos on Tuesday. It went well.
The grade 6’s are starting their Saints Projects on Thursday.
All the classes are learning about ANZAC Day.
The senior students are very excited because of all the sport events they are doing this term including, Soccer, Netball and Cross-Country.
We are starting to build Cars and Boats in STEM to see if we can get them up and running, hopefully it works!

Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour
Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour
Current research tells us that behaviour is a form of communication. A baby will cry to tell us they are hungry. A toddler will tantrum because they are frustrated. In a similar way, children use behaviour to tell us something. At Sacred Heart we try to understand a child’s message before there is a need for a consequence. A great way to do this is to be active in our supervision and to de-escalate or intervene before behaviours become too big for the child to manage.
One of our tried and tested ways to do this is to simply ask ‘How can I help you?’. In this simple way children are seen, heard and supported to complete a task.
