Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to all the parents and carers who made contact with the teaching staff during the interview sessions. As some families were not able to come at those times we are keen for you to have the opportunity to talk with the teachers about your child. Some parents have made contact for a phone interview, this is always an option and some have made time for next week. If you haven’t had an interview with your child’s teacher please email and make a booking directly with the home room teacher.
UNIFORM
The focus on uniform for black shoes has been well taken up. The shoes can be comfortable, they do not have to be leather, just plain black shoes. With no brand markings. A white sole is acceptable.
Our next focus for the uniform is hair and nail polish. Long hair needs to be tied back with natural coloured or school coloured hair ties. Dyed hair must be in natural tones and nail polish is not permitted.
Very soon we will have a notification system to let you know when your child is not in the correct uniform via PAM.
DISCUSSIONS WITH GRADE 5/6
Today I spoke with the senior school children, Grade 5/6 about being leaders in the school. We discussed the expectations of being Safe, Respectful and Inclusive and I asked them which part of “roasting” fits into these expectations. Unanimously they told me no part is. “Roasting” someone means to make fun of or tease them in a humorous way, usually in a public setting, using insults or jokes at their expense. All seniors agreed that this is a serious thing to do and not something that should be done at Sacred Heart or anytime. During leadership discussions I have found all our seniors insightful and respectful in their responses. All students agreed to appropriate consequences for this behaviour and discussed their opinions in a positive way.
HOT LUNCH FRIDAY
Hot Lunch Friday is coming. We plan to have several options in a rotation. I am currently working on outside providers having contracts in place so they can deliver on-site. This will take some time.
LOLLIES AT SCHOOL
We have had a lot of children bring lollies to school and we are finding that they are eating them before school, as well as at play time (and sometimes trying to eat them in class). Loads of sugar does not help students focus on learning. We encourage all families to limit lollies, especially “all day lollipops” to special occasions. Please send fresh fruit, carrot sticks, celery, sultanas or any other fresh fruit and vegetable options. There are periodic fruit stops during the learning sessions which children look forward to.
CAR PARK NEWS FLASH
The repair of the sink hole will begin on Monday. I have been assured that the pickup and drive through will still function but there will be fewer car parks. The parish will unlock the bottom gate so that cars can exit from the other side of the church. This will only be available during this week while the works are happening.
Also a reminder that when dropping off students in the morning please either park in the car park and have the students walk across the crossing or drive to the bottom gate.
For safety reasons we cannot have cars parking where the morning flags or beyond to let children out. Parents and Cares who wish to drop and run must drive to the gate at 8:30 and let the children walk up inside the school.
Cars must move in and around the car park at walking pace (5kph) as designated by the signs on the road and (10kph) in the car park. Everybody must enter and leave the road slowly.
I wish you all a restful weekend in this heat,
God Bless,
Anne-Marie Robb

On Friday the 24th at assembly we announced the Social Justice team, Sustainability Warriors and our Sports Captains. All the 4-6’s that got a job also got their badges.
In the past few weeks we have had icy pole days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Our new Social Justice team has been selling them for 50 cents. So far we have raised $167.50 Selling the icypoles has gone really well and has been a good success.
On February the 21st it was a Shrove Tuesday and everyone had a yummy pancake.
On February the 22nd we had a whole school mass for Ash wednesday and we all got ashes from the palm leaves from last year. The priest did a cross on our foreheads with the ashes.
Shrove Tuesday is commonly known as Pancake Tuesday. It is the last day before the
season of Lent begins. Traditionally Christians would use all their flour, milk, butter, sugar and eggs to make pancakes in preparation for fasting through Lent. This year all students had the experience of eating pancakes in the classroom kindly cooked by Miss Kristy and served by our school leaders.
