Dear Parents and Carers,
It is with great delight that I congratulate all the children who put their hand up to swim for our school. Goy, Mali, Ruby, Emily, Isabella, Sophie, Emmy, Apenisa and Aleksja who was unwell on the day. Mali, Isabella and Emmy progressed to the second round. Unfortunately, due to illness the relay team could not compete on the day, the girls who missed out on their swim are to be applauded in how they managed their disappointment. Following the second round Mali and Isabella are moving to the regional competition. We are so very proud of all the children for stepping out of their comfort zone and empowering themselves in the world.
Our Kids Teaching Kids initiative continues to grow with a science club, the focus being magnets and magnetic force. Our lead scientist, Logan, will continue to set up small challenges at lunch times throughout the week. Drawing Club continues at need, and next week a junior maths club will begin.
“Prayer of the Air” has continued to be a beautiful space with much discussion in the classroom as to how many people can be nominated to contribute to the announcements. The “Prayer of the Air” team will discuss this protocol and let the children know.
DROP OFF/PICK UP
I would like to remind everybody of the “pick up” and “drop off” protocol. When your children are entering from the top door you must park in the car park. Some cars are currently parking in the disabled car park or a bit further down, or dropping off in the exit gateway of the car park. If you want your children to walk into the school straight from the car please drive down to the bottom gate which will be open at 8:30am.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
We thank all parents involved in the parent teacher interviews. The feedback has been appreciated and the interactions positive. Together with frequent attention to communication we will continue to improve our school and student learning outcomes. One suggestion made to help bridge the gap of communication during the pandemic is to have a place where teachers can be introduced. Next week there will be a spot on our website where the staff photos will be available with their names.
LENT and the EASTER JOURNEY
I again need to thank the families who have been enthusiastic in their response to the Caritas initiative “Project Compassion”. This is an optional activity but it shows in our school the meaning of the word ‘Caritas’ (Christian love of humankind; charity) is alive and in action. I am so privileged to see this every day in our children and families.
RECONCILIATION PROGRAM
Last night the 1st Reconciliation preparation program began at our school with children from St. Vincent’s and Lumen Christi attending. The children interacted with their parents, responding with open minds and open hearts. If you have a child who is Baptised and in Grade 3/4/5 or 6 who has missed this first session, and would like to join the program, please notify the school as soon as possible. If we have interest we will run another session next week.
FIRST EUCHARIST
On Sunday, Denzel and Rahni will be celebrating their 1st Eucharist. They are excited and nervous at the same time and are ready for this step in their Faith journey. They have waited through two lock downs last year and were held off yet again by the mini lockdown two weeks ago. I ask you to remember them in your prayers as they celebrate at the10:30 Mass in Morwell on Sunday.
Lastly, we are looking forward to an incursion in week 7 with Sean Choolburra who is an Aboriginal performer described as being charismatic, vibrant and captivating. He fuses his engaging energy, alongside historical facts, spiritual wisdom, depth of ancestral understanding and knowledge. He is presenting to us as part of our History/Civics and Citizenship investigation titled IDENTITY.
